Meet Polly, the inspiration behind Sensory Paws
Polly’s journey began as an ex-breeding dog, she spent the first 6 years of her life in kennels having multiple litters. But fate intervened when a loving family rescued her, revealing just how special she truly was. Polly’s owners faced challenges, and when their plea for help appeared on Facebook, I knew I needed to help. What started as fostering quickly transformed into adopting Polly and creating a beautiful bond that would change both our lives forever.
As Polly gracefully aged, defying expectations at 10 years old, life threw her a curveball—a Piyometra that required life-saving surgery. Thankfully, she emerged from it with remarkable resilience. Yet, I noticed her slowing down, her once-enthusiastic walks becoming a struggle.
Polly’s three great loves are—me (her Mummy), food, and adventure, creating a challenge for me to include all of her favourite things in something we could do together everyday.
I created enrichment games to stimulate her mind, compensating for reduced physical activity. I’d hide treats in snuffle mats, set up scent trails, and even bring back seaweed from the beach and sticks from her favorite parks, ensuring she always felt included wherever I'd been. The transformation in her well-being was incredible, and thus, Sensory Paws was born—a testament to the magic of sensory experiences for dogs.
Remember, every dog, regardless of size, age, or breed, deserves a sense of adventure. Polly’s story reminds us that age is merely a number; life remains magical even with some wobbly legs.
